Tableau Elements supports bulk editing mode that helps users to save time by allowing them to edit multiple data points simultaneously. Bulk edit mode can be switched on when configuring the extension.

The following steps guide you through how to use the feature:

(It is recommended to parallelly open the configuration guide that guides you through the main steps of the configuration process)

1. In order to utilize Bulk Editing's all features the first step is to select “When allow locking this field for bulk editing” when creating the annotation rule. After the locking feature is enabled, open the configuration guide, and start the extension's configuration

2. After selecting the Tableau Sheet that should be annotated, select Bulk edit mode at the Edit Mode part

3. (Optional) Favorite fields can optionally be added to easily identify the data point that is being edited

4. After the configuration is completed go over to your Tableau Dashboard and select multiple data points. You can select multiple data points by the following keyboard combination: Ctrl + left click (Windows) /Command + left click (IOS)

There are two ways bulk editing can be done:

Option 1 - All of the chosen data points should have the same values

1. Imagine you want to edit 10 data points simultaneously and they all should have the same values

2. Set the values for the first data point

3. Click on the arrow on the Save and next button and a dropdown list will appear

4. From the two options, select Save to all and Next

5. This way all of the selected 10 data points will take up the values that you entered for the first one

Option 2 – The chosen data points have one or more values that should be the same but other values should differ

1. Imagine you have 10 data points and all of them have one value (or sometimes more) that should be the same

2. Set the values for the first data point

3. Click on the lock on the right-hand side in order to lock the value(s) that should remain the same in all of the selected data points. This way, the given value will be applied default when editing the next data point. You know that a value is locked when the lock’s colour changes

Note: the locking feature only becomes available when “When allow locking this field for bulk editing” is selected when defining the annotation rule (see step one)

4. Click on the arrow on the Save and next button and a dropdown list will appear

5. From the two options select Save without dashboard refresh

6. This way, the locked value(s) will be default applied for the next data point and the fields that were not locked can be edited

7. Fill out the forms for the remaining data points (after each completed form, click on the Save without dashboard refresh button)

8. When all of the 10 forms are completed, finish and save everything by clicking on the Save button
